Namma Metro Marks 15 Years, But Fails To Ease Bengaluru Traffic Congestion
Times of India · india
Namma Metro celebrated 15 years of operations, expanding from a 6.7km stretch to a 96km network with 83 stations, and daily ridership grew to 10 lakh. Despite this expansion, the Metro has struggled to significantly ease Bengaluru's notorious traffic gridlocks, with vehicle numbers exceeding 1.3 crore. Experts cite policy failures, poor first- and last-mile connectivity, and weak integration with other transport modes as reasons for its limited impact. Furthermore, Namma Metro is becoming one of India's most expensive systems following a fare revision.
