Business Standard · business

The Reserve Bank of India has imposed heavy costs on importers for forward purchases of foreign currency, signaling a significant shift in forex market regulations. This move successfully strengthened the Indian rupee from nearly 97 to 95 against the US dollar. However, unhedged exporters are now facing lower realisations in rupees than anticipated. Importers, meanwhile, are dealing with higher payments against forward contracts compared to prevailing spot rates.
