CBFC flags Umar Khalid film screening at IIIT-Hyderabad

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has flagged a proposed documentary screening on jailed activist Umar Khalid at IIIT-Hyderabad. The CBFC stated that screening an uncertified film violates the Cinematograph Act unless an exemption is granted. The documentary, titled 'Prisoner No. 626710 is Present', was planned for screening by students. IIIT-Hyderabad has distanced itself, clarifying that neither the institute nor its recognised student bodies organised the event.

केंद्रीय फिल्म प्रमाणन बोर्ड (CBFC) ने IIIT-Hyderabad में जेल में बंद कार्यकर्ता उमर खालिद पर प्रस्तावित डॉक्यूमेंट्री स्क्रीनिंग पर आपत्ति जताई है। CBFC ने कहा कि बिना प्रमाणन वाली फिल्म दिखाना सिनेमैटोग्राफ एक्ट का उल्लंघन है, जब तक कि कोई छूट न मिले। 'Prisoner No. 626710 is Present' नाम की यह फिल्म छात्रों द्वारा दिखाई जानी थी। IIIT-Hyderabad ने खुद को इससे अलग कर लिया है, यह साफ करते हुए कि न तो संस्थान और न ही इसके मान्यता प्राप्त छात्र समूहों ने इस कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया था।
