Rahul Gandhi has attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework for UPI transactions. He accused the government of yielding to US pressure and urged Modi to "have a spine" and withdraw the alleged UPI tax. The Congress called it a "Modi tax" and a "FAST move". The finance ministry clarified MDR applies only to specified merchant transactions above Rs 2,000, not person-to-person payments, with 96% of merchant transactions unaffected.

राहुल गांधी ने यूपीआई (UPI) लेनदेन के नए मर्चेंट डिस्काउंट रेट (MDR) ढांचे को लेकर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी पर हमला बोला है। उन्होंने सरकार पर अमेरिकी दबाव के आगे झुकने का आरोप लगाया और मोदी से "रीढ़ की हड्डी दिखाने" और कथित यूपीआई टैक्स वापस लेने का आग्रह किया। कांग्रेस ने इसे "मोदी टैक्स" और "FAST मूव" बताया। वित्त मंत्रालय ने स्पष्ट किया कि MDR केवल ₹2,000 से ऊपर के कुछ व्यापारी लेनदेन पर लागू होता है, न कि व्यक्ति-से-व्यक्ति भुगतान पर, जिससे 96% व्यापारी लेनदेन अप्रभावित रहेंगे।
