Nepal has drastically cut the waiting period for declaring disaster victims missing to 45 days, down from 12 years. This change allows families of 5,285 individuals, including 189 Indians, who disappeared in the floods to obtain death certificates. These certificates are crucial for pursuing compensation, insurance, and inheritance claims. The ordinance, issued by President Ram Chandra Poudel, took immediate effect, enabling the process for affected families to begin. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu will assist in verifying details for Indian nationals.
