A seven-month-old elephant calf named Shekhar has found a new home at Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary after failed attempts to reunite him with his herd. Shekhar was rescued from the Basia forest in Gumla after being separated, and two reunion efforts proved unsuccessful. Forest officials explained that elephants sometimes refuse to accept calves separated for extended periods. Shekhar, who also has a leg injury, will now be cared for at Dalma alongside resident elephants Rajni and Badal, with veterinary staff attending to his injuries.
