PMO Only Authority To Prosecute IAS Officers

The Central government informed the Madras High Court that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is the sole competent authority to grant sanction for prosecuting Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in criminal cases. Files are first sent to the Central Vigilance Commission for remarks before reaching the PMO. This clarification came during a hearing concerning delays in prosecuting IAS officers in a corruption case involving former minister S.P. Velumani.

केंद्र सरकार ने मद्रास हाई कोर्ट को बताया कि भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा (IAS) के अधिकारियों पर आपराधिक मामलों में मुकदमा चलाने की मंजूरी देने का एकमात्र अधिकार प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय (PMO) के पास है। फाइलों पर PMO में आने से पहले केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयोग (CVC) से राय ली जाती है। यह स्पष्टीकरण पूर्व मंत्री एस.पी. वेलुमणि से जुड़े भ्रष्टाचार के मामले में IAS अधिकारियों पर मुकदमा चलाने में देरी को लेकर हुई सुनवाई के दौरान आया।
