US Bars Fiji-Based Man Over Corruption Tied To China

The US Department of State has designated Zhao Fugang, director of the Overseas Chinese Service Center in Fiji, for corruption on behalf of Chinese actors. Zhao allegedly paid bribes to Fijian citizens to advance Chinese government, business, and criminal interests, adversely affecting US interests. This designation makes Zhao and his immediate family ineligible for entry into the United States. The US embassy stated that Zhao's actions exposed Fiji to malign foreign influence facilitated by Chinese entities, noting a trend of criminals with China ties operating in the Pacific.
