Centre Plans FASTag Toll Exemption For Armed Forces' Private Vehicles

The Centre is planning to exempt private vehicles of 1.4 million defence personnel from paying highway tolls. This initiative aims to resolve issues arising from barrier-less tolling systems, where armed forces personnel using private vehicles have been receiving e-challans. Discussions are underway with the defence ministry to implement a mechanism, possibly involving FASTags with costs reimbursed by the defence ministry or differentiated FASTags that record movement without deducting charges. The move is crucial to avoid delays in the nationwide rollout of multi-lane free flow tolling systems.

केंद्र सरकार 14 लाख रक्षा कर्मियों के निजी वाहनों को हाईवे टोल से छूट देने की योजना बना रही है। यह कदम बैरियर-लेस टोलिंग सिस्टम से आ रही दिक्कतों को दूर करने के लिए उठाया जा रहा है, जिसमें निजी वाहनों का इस्तेमाल करने वाले सेना के जवानों को ई-चालान मिल रहे थे। रक्षा मंत्रालय के साथ एक ऐसे सिस्टम को लागू करने के लिए बातचीत चल रही है, जिसमें संभवतः FASTag का इस्तेमाल होगा और जिसका खर्च रक्षा मंत्रालय वहन करेगा, या फिर ऐसे अलग FASTag होंगे जो बिना पैसे काटे आवाजाही का रिकॉर्ड रखेंगे। यह कदम मल्टी-लेन फ्री फ्लो टोलिंग सिस्टम के देशव्यापी रोलआउट में देरी से बचने के लिए बहुत ज़रूरी है।
