Bank of England's Taylor: Energy Prices Alone Don't Justify Rate Hike

Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee member Alan Taylor stated that higher energy prices alone do not warrant an interest rate hike. He believes such increases could significantly raise inflation over winter but require clearer signs of persistent inflation across the wider economy. Taylor noted limited evidence of second-round inflation effects, with wage growth aligning with the Bank's 2% target. He was among six members who voted to keep rates unchanged at 3.75% this month, indicating a high threshold for supporting tighter monetary policy.
