India Auto Sales Dip 23.8% in October on High Base; EVs Surge

Business Standard · automobile

India's automobile retail sales saw a significant 23.8% year-on-year decline in October, reaching approximately 3.17 million units. This drop is attributed to a high base from the previous year when festivals aligned differently, and pent-up demand from GST rate cuts. Despite the overall fall, October recorded the second-highest vehicle retail sales for the month, with sequential growth from September indicating healthy festive demand. Electric vehicle sales, however, hit an all-time high, surging 45% to 355,000 units, increasing their market penetration to 11.5%.
