WWF Report: Global Wildlife Declines 73%, But India Sees Rise In Tigers, Lions

Aaj Tak · environment

A WWF Living Planet Report reveals a staggering 73% average decline in monitored wildlife populations globally between 1970 and 2022. This significant drop, affecting vertebrate species, is primarily attributed to habitat loss and degradation, overhunting, climate change, and pollution. However, the report highlights India as a positive exception, with notable increases in populations of tigers, Asiatic lions, one-horned rhinos, and snow leopards. Conservation efforts in India are cited as a successful example of how dedicated protection can lead to species recovery.
