Pooja Vaingankar, 32, has become the first woman heavy-vehicle driver recruited by KTC, breaking a 46-year-old gender barrier. Vaingankar brings prior experience driving goods vehicles on interstate routes, which impressed during the selection process. KTC managing director Rohan Khaskar noted her talent and familiarity with long-distance operations. Her induction challenges the perception that driving heavy vehicles is exclusively a male occupation. She will join other new recruits next week after completing medical formalities.
