UoH Researchers Discover How Tomato Plants Use Phosphate More Efficiently
The Hindu · india
Researchers at the University of Hyderabad have identified a key molecular mechanism enabling tomato plants to better transport and reuse phosphate, a vital nutrient for growth. Their study, published in the Journal of Experimental Botany, found that a gene named PAP26b is crucial for moving stored phosphate from older leaves to younger, developing parts of the plant. When this gene was deactivated, young leaves and roots showed signs of phosphate deficiency, even with adequate nutrient availability.
