Economic Times Markets · stocks
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) held $717 billion in Indian equities during the September quarter, with private banks receiving the largest share at $144 billion. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, and Axis Bank together comprised 25% of this total holding. While FIIs reduced exposure in 56% of Nifty 500 companies, they increased investments in sectors like Internet & New-Age Technology and Healthcare. Despite secondary market selling, FIIs are channeling capital into primary market issues, indicating a preference for emerging investment themes amidst a challenging global macroeconomic environment.
