Karnataka Replaces SIT Chief in Sowjanya Murder Case Probe

Karnataka has appointed Chetan Singh Rathore as the new chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2012 rape and murder of 17-year-old Sowjanya. Inspector General of Police N Shashi Kumar has been replaced following his request to be relieved of the assignment. The Supreme Court had ordered a fresh investigation due to deficiencies in earlier probes by the CID and CBI. The court also directed that officers involved in previous investigations should not be part of the new team.

कर्नाटक ने 2012 में 17 वर्षीय सौजanya के बलात्कार और हत्या की जांच कर रही स्पेशल इन्वेस्टिगेशन टीम (SIT) के नए प्रमुख के तौर पर चेतन सिंह राठौर को नियुक्त किया है। पुलिस महानिरीक्षक एन शशि कुमार को इस जिम्मेदारी से मुक्त करने के उनके अनुरोध के बाद उन्हें बदला गया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने CID और CBI द्वारा की गई पिछली जांचों में कमियों के कारण एक नई जांच का आदेश दिया था। अदालत ने यह भी निर्देश दिया था कि पिछली जांचों में शामिल अधिकारी नई टीम का हिस्सा न हों।
