Chhattisgarh HC Upholds Divorce Over Mental Cruelty Allegations

The Chhattisgarh High Court has upheld a Family Court's decision to grant divorce to a government employee on grounds of mental cruelty. The court observed that a spouse's alleged closeness to another person and baseless accusations of an extramarital affair can constitute cruelty, depending on the circumstances. A division bench dismissed the wife's appeal against the divorce decree, noting that cruelty in matrimonial disputes requires assessing the cumulative effect of conduct.
