Kolkata's Oldest Hostel Building To Be Converted Into Law College

Kolkata's oldest school hostel, a 237-year-old building at St Thomas’ School in Kidderpore, is set to be transformed into a law college. The new institution, named ‘Bishop Canning Law College’, will offer a five-year BA LLB programme. The Kolkata Diocese of the Church of North India (CNI) decided to establish this law institute in 2021. The Bar Council of India has granted approval, and the college is slated for inauguration. The heritage hostel has relocated its boarders to facilitate this conversion.

कोलकाता का सबसे पुराना स्कूल हॉस्टल, किडरपोर में सेंट थॉमस स्कूल का 237 साल पुराना भवन, अब एक लॉ कॉलेज में तब्दील होने वाला है। नया संस्थान, जिसका नाम ‘बिशप कैनिंग लॉ कॉलेज’ होगा, पांच साल का बीए एलएलबी प्रोग्राम पेश करेगा। नॉर्थ इंडिया (CNI) के चर्च के कोलकाता सूबा ने 2021 में इस लॉ इंस्टीट्यूट की स्थापना का फैसला किया था। बार काउंसिल ऑफ इंडिया ने मंजूरी दे दी है, और कॉलेज का उद्घाटन होने वाला है। हेरिटेज हॉस्टल ने इस बदलाव की सुविधा के लिए अपने बोर्डर्स को स्थानांतरित कर दिया है।
