Mild Brain Shocks Temporarily Reduce Bias In Objectifying Women, Study Finds

Hindustan Times · science

A new study from the University of Exeter suggests that mild electrical shocks to the brain can temporarily alter perceptions of sexualised images of women. Applying a 10-minute electrical current to the scalp helped participants recognise upright images of sexualised women more easily and removed processing differences between male and female images. While researchers caution this is not a cure for sexism, it offers insight into how objectification works by changing visual processing. The lab study involved 76 students and used electrical stimulation as a novel approach to understanding bias.
