The Calcutta High Court has asked a Murshidabad man, Selim Seikh, to prove his Indian nationality as authorities consider his deportation. His wife, Nargis Bibi, had sought to prevent his removal from a detention camp where he has been held. Selim's name was absent from voter lists, while his wife's appeared on both 2002 and 2026 lists. Police presented documents suggesting he is a Bangladeshi national, leading to his detention under a Ministry of Home Affairs notification for illegal immigrants.
