India is aiming to finalise the multi-role fighter aircraft (MRFA) deal by the end of the current financial year, according to Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. The Indian Air Force needs to procure 36 to 40 aircraft annually for the next few years to address depleting fighter squadron strength. India had previously cleared a proposal to procure 114 Rafale jets under a government-to-government framework with France. The IAF chief also mentioned considering other platforms if the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme faces delays.
