Telangana Deputy CM: Yadadri Power Plant Built Without Assured Coal Supply

The Hindu · india

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) was established without a guaranteed coal supply, as the previous BRS government repeatedly changed sources. He explained that the required 14 million tonnes of G9 grade coal were not available from Singareni Collieries, leading to reliance on imported and lower-grade coal. This decision has significantly increased power generation costs at YTPS, costing an estimated ₹40,000 crore in transportation over its lifetime. Vikramarka also dismissed rumours of power utility privatisation.
