In March 2022, actors Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donated $500,000 to the Canadian charity Water First to support Indigenous communities in accessing safe drinking water. Four years later, eight Indigenous trainees have successfully completed a 15-month program, accumulating over 2,000 hours of practical training and passing four exams. This achievement qualifies them as certified drinking-water treatment operators. The program, run in partnership with the Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag Resource Council and Big Island First Nation, aims to equip individuals with essential skills for water management within their communities.
