Andhra Pradesh Finalises Mayor Reservation For 17 Municipal Corporations

The Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department in Andhra Pradesh has finalised the reservation for Mayors across 17 municipal corporations. This decision allocates posts for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and women. Five mayor posts are reserved for women (general) and Backward Classes each, followed by four unreserved posts. Additionally, two posts are reserved for Scheduled Castes and one for Scheduled Tribes. These reservations are in line with Supreme Court directions and aim to ensure representation in local governance for the upcoming 2026 elections.

आंध्र प्रदेश के नगर प्रशासन और शहरी विकास विभाग ने 17 नगर निगमों में महापौरों के लिए आरक्षण को अंतिम रूप दे दिया है। इस फैसले में अनुसूचित जनजाति, अनुसूचित जाति, पिछड़ा वर्ग और महिलाओं के लिए पदों का आवंटन किया गया है। पांच महापौर पद प्रत्येक महिला (सामान्य) और पिछड़ा वर्ग के लिए आरक्षित हैं, इसके बाद चार अनारक्षित पद हैं। इसके अलावा, दो पद अनुसूचित जाति और एक पद अनुसूचित जनजाति के लिए आरक्षित है। ये आरक्षण Supreme Court के निर्देशों के अनुरूप हैं और आगामी 2026 चुनावों के लिए स्थानीय शासन में प्रतिनिधित्व सुनिश्चित करने का लक्ष्य रखते हैं।
