सिलचर स्थित असम यूनिवर्सिटी के एक सहायक प्रोफेसर पर बेंगलुरु में एक सम्मेलन के दौरान एक महिला शोधकर्ता से कथित तौर पर छेड़छाड़ करने का मामला दर्ज किया गया है। शोधकर्ता ने 11 अक्टूबर को शिकायत दर्ज कराई, जिसमें यौन उत्पीड़न और बाद में उसकी अकादमिक प्रगति को खतरे में डालने का आरोप लगाया गया। उसने बताया कि प्रोफेसर ने लिफ्ट में अनुचित प्रस्ताव दिया और मना करने पर उसकी पीएचडी पूरी होने की धमकी दी। असम यूनिवर्सिटी की आंतरिक शिकायत समिति मामले की जांच कर रही है, और विश्वविद्यालय की यौन उत्पीड़न के खिलाफ सख्त नीति है।
