The US government has fined Instacart $5 million for allegedly discriminating against American workers in its hiring practices. The Justice Department stated that the company created extra burdens for US workers by requiring applications to be physically mailed for positions advertised under the Permanent Labor Certification process. Instacart violated the Immigration and Nationality Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. A settlement fund of up to $4 million will compensate affected applicants, addressing claims of preferring temporary visa holders over US citizens.
