The 81st session of the UN General Assembly opened with the theme 'Restoring trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers For All'. President Khalilur Rahman aims to make the organization fit for the future. While a median of 55% across 37 countries still views the UN positively, Pew's 2026 survey shows declining favourable views in 10 countries, indicating a trust deficit. The UN is implementing reforms to improve efficiency, review mandates, and reorganise structures, including a budget reduction and institutional mergers.
