The Hindu - International · world

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won Brazil's presidential election, securing 51.7% of the vote against Flávio Bolsonaro's 48.2%. This victory marks a significant comeback for the 80-year-old former trade unionist, who had previously finished second in the first round. Lula's campaign focused on economic issues, promising growth and welfare, and successfully mobilized voters concerned about democracy and civil rights. His win defies the recent trend of right-wing gains in South America and positions him as a potential voice of resistance to U.S. imperial ambitions.
