Goddess Katyayani, also known as Mahishasuramardini and Bhadrakali, is honoured on Shashthi during Shardiya Navratri. She represents the force that rises to confront demons and negative influences threatening the world. Two primary narratives explain her origin: one where she is born as Sage Katyayan's daughter to destroy demons, and another where she emerges from the collective power of the gods to defeat Mahishasura. Her strength is depicted not as mere anger, but as decisive action, wisdom, and restraint against injustice.
