Tripura Tribal Committee Plans Protest Over Pending Customary Law Bills

The Tripura Tribal Customary Law Co-ordination Committee will hold a three-hour sit-in in Agartala on December 7 to demand the speedy codification of 14 pending customary law bills. These bills, passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council in December 2022, govern marriage, inheritance, and other personal matters for indigenous communities. The committee expressed concern that four years later, the codification process remains incomplete, with some bills returned for modifications and others still under state government consideration.

त्रिपुरा ट्राइबल कस्टमरी लॉ कोऑर्डिनेशन कमेटी 7 दिसंबर को अगरतला में 14 लंबित प्रथागत कानून विधेयकों के शीघ्र संहिताकरण की मांग को लेकर तीन घंटे का धरना देगी। ये विधेयक, जो दिसंबर 2022 में त्रिपुरा ट्राइबल एरियाज ऑटोनॉमस डिस्ट्रिक्ट काउंसिल द्वारा पारित किए गए थे, स्वदेशी समुदायों के लिए विवाह, विरासत और अन्य व्यक्तिगत मामलों को नियंत्रित करते हैं। समिति ने चिंता व्यक्त की कि चार साल बाद भी संहिताकरण की प्रक्रिया अधूरी है, कुछ विधेयक संशोधनों के लिए वापस कर दिए गए हैं और अन्य अभी भी राज्य सरकार के विचार के अधीन हैं।
