Times of India · india

Two indigenous hovercraft, H-561 and H-562, have arrived at Adimalathura coast near Vizhinjam, enhancing the Coast Guard's coastal surveillance and rescue capabilities. Built at Goa's Chowgule Shipyard, these vessels are part of a six-hovercraft program aimed at reducing foreign dependence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Capable of speeds up to 96kmph and carrying eight tonnes, they can operate on land and sea, including shallow waters. This addition is expected to expand the Coast Guard's capacity for patrols, monitoring, and emergency response along vulnerable coastlines.
