Karnataka HC Asks Courts To Use 'Parenting Time' Instead Of 'Visitation'
Times of India · india
The Karnataka High Court has directed all family courts to replace the term 'visitation' with 'parenting time' in child custody orders. Justice Lalitha Kanneganti observed that 'visitation' wrongly suggests one parent is merely a visitor. The directive came during a custody dispute where a father hadn't seen his son in nine years. The court questioned the trial court's decision to grant extensive access without assessing the child's best interests and practicalities. This change aims to reflect the reality that no parent is a visitor in a child's life.
