MLC Elections Do Not Reflect Popular Support, Experts Say
The Hindu · india
MLC elections across various states are receiving undue attention, according to discussions. Winning or losing these polls does not necessarily indicate a party's gain or loss in popular support. This is because the electorate for MLC elections is a distinct, smaller group compared to the voters in general and Assembly elections. For instance, Uttar Pradesh had 11 constituencies, Bihar eight, Maharashtra five, and Karnataka four constituencies went to polls in these elections. The total number of registered voters in a state can exceed seven crore.
