Hindu monk Swami Sarvapriyananda recounted late-night conversations with Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's ChatGPT, where both AI chatbots identified themselves as "high-functioning machines." He was visiting Anthropic's headquarters in San Francisco and had been encouraged by researchers to interact with the AI as if it were a person. When asked about this, the AIs stated they did not have feelings and were designed to solve problems.
