Annai Velankanni Shrine Elevated to Minor Basilica

The Annai Velankanni Shrine in Besant Nagar has been officially elevated to the status of a minor Basilica by Pope Leo XIV. A special ceremony was held on Sunday to mark this significant occasion. Twelve Bishops from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh gathered at the seaside place of worship. The Papal Decree was read out by Charge d’Affaires ad interim, Apostolic Nunciature to India, Andrea Francia.

चेन्नई के बेसेंट नगर में स्थित अन्नाई वेलंकन्नी श्राइन को पोप लियो XIV ने आधिकारिक तौर पर माइनर बेसिलिका का दर्जा दिया है। रविवार को इस खास मौके पर एक समारोह हुआ। तमिलनाडु और आंध्र प्रदेश के बारह बिशप इस समुद्री पूजा स्थल पर इकट्ठा हुए। भारत में एपोस्टोलिक ननशियो के चार्ज डी'अफेयर्स एड इंटरिम, एंड्रिया फ्रांसिया ने पोप का फरमान पढ़कर सुनाया।
