Supreme Court: Bank Merger Cannot Evade Rent Act

The Supreme Court has ruled that a bank cannot claim immunity from eviction under the Delhi Rent Control Act if it acquired leased property through a statutory merger. The court clarified that the merger process does not grant banks special privileges to bypass tenant protections.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा है कि दिल्ली रेंट कंट्रोल एक्ट के तहत बैंक बेदखली से छूट का दावा नहीं कर सकते, अगर उन्होंने किसी वैधानिक विलय के ज़रिए लीज़ पर ली गई प्रॉपर्टी हासिल की हो। कोर्ट ने साफ किया कि विलय की प्रक्रिया बैंकों को किरायेदारों के अधिकारों को नज़रअंदाज़ करने के लिए कोई विशेष अधिकार नहीं देती है।
