Business Standard · environment
Incidents of paddy stubble burning in seven Indian states have decreased by 26.63 per cent between September 15 and November 1, with a total of 3,316 cases reported. Punjab recorded the highest number of incidents at 1,514, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This reduction is attributed to government measures like subsidies for machinery and the establishment of Custom Hiring Centres. The Commission for Air Quality Management is also employing satellite monitoring and enforcement to curb the practice, alongside promoting crop diversification.
