Al Jazeera · world
Survivors of the Zamzam displacement camp in Sudan's North Darfur are determined to tell the stories of those who perished during recent attacks. The camp, established in 2004 and home to generations displaced by the Darfur war, was captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April 2025 after months of siege. A UN Human Rights Office report documented at least 1,013 civilians killed, including 319 summarily executed, alongside widespread sexual violence. Survivors recount severe food shortages and violence, with restrictions on goods leading to starvation before the final assault.
