Tamil Nadu Universities Get Acting V-Cs

Eleven state universities in Tamil Nadu lacking Vice-Chancellors will soon have senior professors appointed to oversee their administration. Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan announced that convenor committees will select professors to act as Vice-Chancellors in-charge with necessary powers. This process is already complete at two universities and will be implemented across the remaining eleven. The government is also planning a specialised university for emerging technologies.

तमिलनाडु के ग्यारह राज्य विश्वविद्यालयों में वाइस-चांसलर नहीं हैं। अब वहां वरिष्ठ प्रोफेसरों को प्रशासन संभालने के लिए नियुक्त किया जाएगा। उच्च शिक्षा मंत्री पी. विश्वनाथन ने बताया कि कन्वीनर कमेटियां प्रोफेसरों का चुनाव करेंगी जो वाइस-चांसलर इन-चार्ज के तौर पर काम देखेंगे। यह प्रक्रिया दो विश्वविद्यालयों में पूरी हो चुकी है और बाकी ग्यारह में भी जल्द लागू होगी। सरकार नई तकनीकों के लिए एक विशेष विश्वविद्यालय बनाने की भी सोच रही है।
