Vellore Collector P.S. Leela Alex has ordered the cancellation of the license for a firecracker manufacturing unit in Chinna Anaicut village following a fatal explosion. The blast killed one worker, R. Gayathri, 41, and critically injured another, U. Sangeetha, 45, who suffered 96% burns. Officials found the unit violated safety norms, including lacking firefighting equipment and storing raw materials improperly. The unit's license, valid until 2029, was revoked. A special team will now conduct surprise safety checks on nine other licensed firecracker units in the district.
