Nueces County leaders have unanimously voted to award a $1.3 million contract for the demolition of the historic 1914 Nueces County Courthouse in Corpus Christi. This decision concludes decades of debate over the deteriorating building, which has been vacant since 1977. Recent engineering studies estimated restoration costs at $120 million, making demolition the more feasible option. The 110-year-old structure will be removed after failed redevelopment plans, including a boutique hotel project, proved too expensive. Demolition is expected to take approximately 130 days.
