The Hindu · india
The elephant at the Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai has been officially named 'Namasivayam'. Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Ramesh visited the elephant's enclosure and bestowed the new name in the presence of local officials. Previously known as 'Hiralal' upon its arrival from Assam on September 24, the elephant is now accessible for devotees to view. Temple authorities have implemented safety measures around the animal's resting area to ensure public security. This naming follows the temple's history with elephants, including the deceased Rukumani, who resided there for 27 years.
