Dehradun Residents Burn Garden Waste Amidst Lack of Municipal Collection Services

Times of India · environment

Residents in Dehradun are resorting to burning horticulture waste due to the DMC inadequate and expensive collection services. The DMC currently operates only five vehicles to manage green waste across its 100 wards. Residents find the separate collection service costly, with charges potentially reaching Rs 800 for small quantities, and lack of a fixed schedule. This practice could exacerbate air pollution, especially with Diwali and winter approaching, as colder weather hinders pollutant dispersion.
