Ladakh Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra stated the Union government is committed to meeting the region's demands through a customised constitutional structure. This comes after civil society groups rejected a Union Home Ministry proposal for a directly elected U.T.-level body with safeguards. Kundra emphasized that meaningful negotiations require mutual trust and patience, highlighting progress made on employment, land, and cultural protection. He expressed hope for a formal shape to the proposal in the coming months, stressing the need for dialogue over outright dismissal.
