Kolkata Puja Stampede: Former Secretary Blames Idol Shift Against Tradition

A former general secretary of the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee has expressed anguish over a stampede that killed 19 people, stating the idol's shifting this year went against community practices. Jayanta Banerjee, who resigned in July after 15 years, claimed he had repeatedly warned organisers against altering the idol's traditional position. He recounted past tragedies linked to minor structural changes, though he did not directly connect the idol's movement to the stampede.
