Scientists in North Carolina have begun meticulously excavating a 5,000-pound block of sandstone containing a 75-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton. The unusually complete fossil, discovered in Utah's Kaiparowits Formation, arrived at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences on October 21. Researchers believe this specimen, estimated to be eight to 10 feet long and resembling an ostrich, could represent a previously unidentified species. Its completeness offers a rare opportunity to study dinosaur anatomy and evolution, potentially revealing new insights into the Late Cretaceous period.
