Scientists Discover Tau Protein Hotspot Linked To Alzheimer's Spread
Times of India · science
Northwestern University scientists have identified a specific molecular hotspot on tau proteins that drives the spread of harmful clumps associated with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Normally flexible, tau proteins misfold and aggregate into fibrils, disrupting nerve cell function. Researchers found that blocking this hydrophobic hotspot with a chemical tag effectively halted the growth of these toxic tau clumps in laboratory tests. This discovery offers a promising new target for developing future treatments against neurodegenerative conditions.
