Blue Zones: Regions Where People Live Exceptionally Long Lives
Hindustan Times · health
Blue Zones are regions with unusually high numbers of people living into their 90s and beyond, often with low rates of chronic disease. Longevity researcher Dan Buettner popularized the term, identifying five key areas: Ikaria (Greece), Sardinia (Italy), Okinawa (Japan), Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica), and Loma Linda (US). These regions share common lifestyle factors, including diets rich in whole, plant-based foods, regular physical activity integrated into daily routines, strong social connections, adequate sleep, and a sense of purpose.
