USCIS Proposal May Increase Scrutiny for H-1B Visa Renewals
Hindustan Times · world
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is proposing changes that could make H-1B visa renewals more challenging for foreign workers. Under the new plan, officers would not be allowed to reference previous approvals when adjudicating renewal petitions. This means each case will undergo a complete reassessment, even if the applicant, employer, and job details remain unchanged. The Department of Homeland Security argues this will prevent errors and fraud. Approximately 208,000 extension petitions annually could be affected, with H-1B visas comprising about 75 percent of this volume.
