जनता दल (यूनाइटेड) के विधायक अनंत कुमार सिंह ने दावा किया कि उन्होंने नीतीश कुमार के राजनीतिक संघर्षों में मदद करने के लिए नौ लोगों की हत्या की व्यवस्था की थी। उन्होंने बाद में स्पष्ट किया कि लालू प्रसाद यादव सरकार के दौरान उनके नौ सहयोगियों की हत्या कर दी गई थी, और उन्हें खुद गोली मार दी गई थी, इन घटनाओं का श्रेय नीतीश कुमार के समर्थन को दिया। जद(यू) ने दूरी बना ली, कहा कि इस बयान पर गंभीरता से विचार करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है और नीतीश कुमार के बेदाग रिकॉर्ड का बचाव किया। सिंह का यह बयान आगामी विधान परिषद चुनावों में उनके प्रतिद्वंद्वी नीरज कुमार को मैदान में उतारे जाने के विरोध से उपजा है।
